About

The American Fisheries Society (AFS), formed in 1870, is the first and largest society of fisheries professionals. Its membership is comprised of over 9,000 individuals with interests in all facets of fishery research, production, management, professional development, and education.

The California-Nevada (Cal-Neva) Chapter, founded in 1966, includes over 400 fisheries and aquatic science professionals from federal, state, and tribal agencies, colleges and universities, and diverse private employers. Students and retired professionals of the fisheries and aquatic science fields are also important members. Our Chapter is actively engaged in fisheries and conservation activities throughout California and Nevada to advance our profession and the cause of fisheries conservation and management. These activities include sponsoring professional meetings, publications, continuing education, and conservation efforts.
